(FORTUNE Magazine) – Rambo mania swept the planet -- to the delight of U.S. distributor Tri-Star Pictures, star Sylvester Stallone, and manufacturers of everything from T- shirts to bubble gum. Rambo -- First Blood II follows an earlier Stallone movie, First Blood, that brought in $137 million. Part II has sold over $150 million in tickets in the U.S. and more than $100 million abroad. Only two films, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Return of the Jedi, have had more successful launches.
