Another Kennedy Hat in the Ring

(FORTUNE Magazine) – When Joseph P. Kennedy II, Robert Kennedy's eldest son, founded Citizens Energy Corp. in 1979 to provide low-cost heating oil to the poor, some saw the nonprofit company as an ideal political launching pad (FORTUNE, July 23, 1984). Kennedy, 33, now says he will run for the Massachusetts congressional seat once held by John F. Kennedy. Young Joe will stress his success at managing CEC, whose revenues are expected to approach $1 billion in 1985, vs. $366 million two years ago. Kennedy's brother Michael, 27, will take over some of his CEC duties during the campaign.
