(FORTUNE Magazine) – Florida became the first state to allow pharmacists to write prescriptions without consulting physicans. The law applies to some 30 drugs. Doctors strongly opposed the measure, and many pharmacists said they would ignore it for fear of liability suits. Minoxodil, Upjohn's experimental cure for baldness, is 48% effective after a year of use, according to company tests. The Food and Drug Administration is studying Upjohn's data.
