(FORTUNE Magazine) – NASHVILLE -- ''Onward Christian Soldiers'' should be left out of the new Methodist hymnal and other lyrics considered militaristic or sexist should be changed, a church committee has voted. The United Methodist Hymnal Revision Committee, wrapping up a three-day conference, voted 10 to 8 Saturday to delete the popular hymn, which appears in the latest edition of The Book of Hymns. ; Opponents of the deletion move contended the hymn did not have a militaristic bent but was a rallying cry for Christians. -- From a news report in the New York Daily News.
