(FORTUNE Magazine) – Alcohol nearly wrecked Wayne Hoover's life. At 24, drinking problems have cost him three jobs, and booze-related mood swings abruptly ended his engagement . . . But Hoover is fighting back in an unusual way: He recently filed suit against the makers of Jack Daniel's whiskey and G. Heileman's Old Style beer, his favorite brands, charging them with negligence for failing to warn about alcohol's dangers. ''Liquor is a drug,'' says Hoover's attorney, Philip Torf. ''It should be labeled as such.'' Lawmakers may second that motion. The Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee has proposed four different labels for bottles of alcoholic beverages. -- From a report in Newsweek.
