(FORTUNE Magazine) – NEW YORK -- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority ((is)) banning take-one ads in the subway system. The MTA faults take-ones -- . . . sheets of information asking readers to ''take one'' -- for a recent increase in vandalism, claiming vandals use the staples that hold take-one pads to scratch windows. The MTA also said the pads are being used to start fires on trains. The MTA decision has New York Subways Advertising, exclusive ad sales agent for the city's subways, worried about loss in revenues . . . ''Any restriction is difficult,'' says Marvin Schwartz, NYSA chairman. ''But we're trying to get the MTA to consider paste-on pads instead of stapled ones.'' -- From a news report in Advertising Age.
