(FORTUNE Magazine) – -- After negotiations with the Environmental Protection Agency, Houston oil and gas company Texas Eastern agreed to clean up PCBs and other toxic wastes at as many as 89 sites along its 10,000-mile natural-gas pipeline. The job will take ten years and could cost $400 million. --Such European opera stars as Renato Bruson are canceling appearances with U.S. opera companies, apparently so they can add dates on the Continent that pay two or three times as much. The loss of big-name singers could hurt subscription sales at regional opera companies.
