Icahn lends a hand
By NANCY J. PERRY

(FORTUNE Magazine) – He probably wouldn't admit it, but -- when it comes to the problem of disadvantaged youngsters, at least -- Carl Icahn is beginning to think like other CEOs. Concerned with the growing number of homeless children in New York City, he is starting a social services agency that will increase the number of foster care families in the city. He has also identified property in the Bronx on which to build housing units for poor families and a facility for children awaiting foster homes. According to the project's director, Robert Osborne, Icahn sees this as only the first step in what will become a major program.
