A changing of the palace guard
By NANCY J. PERRY

(FORTUNE Magazine) – Two years ago an ad campaign for Manhattan's Helmsley Palace pictured the hotel's president, Leona Helmsley, in the regal lodging next to the copy: ''It's the only palace in the world where the Queen stands guard.'' Unfortunately, no one was guarding Leona, 67, who -- along with husband Harry -- is now under investigation by a grand jury for suspected tax violations. Ah, well, into every life a little reign must fall, and across town a model princess stands ready to grab Leona's crown: Ivana Trump, 38, fashion- conscious wife of Donald, who just bought the Plaza Hotel for $390 million. Like Leona, Ivana will be president of her husband's hotel. Unlike Leona, Ivana's salary has already been divulged to the press, courtesy of Donald: $1 per year, ''plus all the dresses she can buy.''
