(FORTUNE Magazine) – BOSTON -- A federal employee fired for refusing to wear a coat and tie for an identification photograph says he'll appeal . . . Roger Arnold . . . said he has not worn a coat and tie at work since the late 1970s and last wore a tie at his son's wedding in 1983 . . . Arnold . . . said his objection to the dress requirement was based on his dislike for business attire, and the fact that no clothing requirement was placed on female . . . employees posing for identification photographs. ''Personally, it was a matter of principles,'' said Arnold . . . ''When I looked at the regulations, it was apparent they were discriminatory. It placed all the clothing burden on men.'' Arnold said he will appeal the dismissal to the Merit Systems Protection Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. -- From an AP dispatch.
