(FORTUNE Magazine) – ATLANTIC CITY -- The city council last week unanimously passed a measure to require palm readers to undergo a criminal check . . . and positive identification when they go for their annual license . . . ''The city can't deal in morality, but it can regulate things better,'' said Councilwoman Louise Palmentieri, who proposed the measure . . . Sharon Annette, a Boardwalk phrenologist -- someone who claims to detect character traits in the shape of a person's skull -- said the legalization of gambling 10 years ago has increased demand for fortune tellers' services and the need for tougher licensing regulations. ''We get a lot of bus people who want a reading to see how their luck is running,'' she said. -- From an AP dispatch.
