(FORTUNE Magazine) – CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State University has been hit with a $1.4 million lawsuit by fired basketball coach Kevin Mackey. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court, accuses the university of improperly firing Mackey because he suffers from alcoholism. The suit says alcoholism is recognized as a handicapped condition under federal law. Mackey was dismissed . . . six days after he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. The suit contends ((his)) firing amounted to ''. . . discrimination on the basis of a handicap . . .'' Mackey now serves as head . . . coach for the Miami Tropics of the United States Basketball League. -- From a UPI dispatch.
