AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH . . .
By Antony J. Michels

(FORTUNE Magazine) – Move over, AT&T. Equitable Life Assurance Society has set a new record for a financial printing order with 2.5 million copies of a 349-page document for policyholders asked to vote on whether to demutualize the troubled company and turn it into a public corporation. Stacked on top of one another, the documents would climb 104,166 feet (nearly 20 miles) -- more than 3 1/2 times the height of Mount Everest. The 3.2 million 272-page prospectuses AT&T sent out in 1983 explaining the divestiture of the Baby Bells reached 103,915 feet. R.R. Donnelley & Sons printed both orders. - A.J.M.
