(FORTUNE Magazine) – Computer-literate types out to revamp their futures are turning to a widening selection of PC software designed by career consultants. Among the most popular: Career Design ($99) from Crystal-Barkley Group. Users spend 40 hours or more answering such questions as ''What do I want?'' and ''How do I get there?'' with the program's help. Rob Joseph, 35, of Greenland, New Hampshire, used it to develop a five-year career plan. He also learned interviewing tips that helped him win his job as a finance manager at Wheelabrator Technologies, a division of environmental services giant Waste Management. One tip: Keep it simple. When an impromptu conversation turned into a job interview, Joseph used a couple of pointed sentences to highlight his job skills.
