(FORTUNE Magazine) – ATLANTIC CITY -- A cocktail waitress has sued the Sands Hotel, Casino, and ; Country Club, contending that the gaming hall discriminates against female employees by forcing them to dress provocatively . . . The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission of Philadelphia, which filed the suit on behalf of Anna M. Grimes, said it is the first case of its kind brought against a casino. The commission filed the action in Federal District Court . . . arguing that women should not be forced to dress differently than men to keep their jobs. Wanda Flowers, the supervisory trial attorney for the commission, said women ''would like to have the opportunity not to have to project that image of a sex object'' . . . Joanne Colclough, 38, who has worked at the casino for 12 years, said women know what they must wear when they take the job. ''A little bit revealing leg and chest goes with the job description,'' she said, noting that she would like to wear more sensible shoes. -- From an AP dispatch.
