A Hair Gel For Technophiles
By Mark Borden

(FORTUNE Magazine) – No, these aren't cordless mice for the iMac. What looks like an Apple add-on is actually a hair product. L'anza, a hair-care company in Los Angeles, has adapted the iconic iMac look for a line of gooey, bubble-gum-scented pomades called Ctrl (as in Control, get it?). L'anza sells the stuff with names like hard_wire, soft_ware, modify, and upgrade (most retail for $13.95). How does this gibe with copyright laws? Apple has no comment, but L'anza executive vice president Dana Story says, "Our trademark attorneys felt there'd be zero issue. One, we're not in a competing industry. Two, they don't have a right to color. Three, it's hardly the size or usage of the mouse." And four, Steve Jobs won't have a vested interest. Given his recent buzz cut, his days of styling product are over.
