(FORTUNE Magazine) – The most surprising thing about premillennial hysteria is that there is so little of it. There was a bit of a disaster-preparedness surge early in the year, but it seems to have petered out--with Y2K-readiness trade shows drawing few people and many Y2K preparedness businesses not cashing in the way they expected. Still, there are those who are taking warnings of coming calamity seriously. From Independence, Mo., to North Ogden, Utah, here is how some are getting ready for the year 2000.
