Treadmills Possessed!
By Cora Daniels

(FORTUNE Magazine) – Often feel like you'd rather be running along a beach in Hawaii than panting inside a gym? With iFit's PC-controlled exercise equipment, you can do so without the expensive airfare or sand. The company's treadmills (which start at around $599) and other fitness equipment plug into a jack in the back of your PC. Surf to the company's Website (www.ifit.com), and you can customize a workout by varying the equipment's speed and incline. You can select a workout locale--an exotic beach, a wooded trail, or a virtual gym class.

The site, which was launched in February by ICON Health & Fitness (the maker of NordicTrack), lets exercise junkies participate in cyberspace videoconference workouts with trainers and competitions like treadmill races. Another part of the Website tracks your journey across a map of, say, the U.S. Now, if only the computer could make your legs move.
