Olympics 2000: It's Not Too Late
By Cora Daniels

(FORTUNE Magazine) – The Sydney Olympics (Sept. 15 to Oct. 1) are billed as the big event of the summer, but 65% of the tickets remain unsold. While seats for opening ceremonies are long gone, you can still gain entry to soccer (at $8, the Games' cheapest event), gymnastics, volleyball, basketball, and tennis. The official Olympic agent in the U.S.--and the only agency with air/room/ticket packages--is Cartan Tours (800-818-1998, cartan.com). Six-night trips start at $4,990. Qantas Vacations (800-348-8134) has seven-night air and lodging deals for about $4,000; event tickets must be bought through Cartan. As for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, tickets go on sale at saltlake2002.com beginning in October.
