Cocktails for the New Economy
By

(FORTUNE Magazine) – In this market, you need a drink. Master mixologist Dale DeGroff--former head bartender of the Rainbow Room, current emperor of kingcocktail.com--devised three guaranteed to spice up your portfolio.

NASDAIQUIRI

1 oz. white rum 1 oz. Bacardi Tropico (rum with fruit flavors) 3/4 oz. fresh lime juice 1 oz. simple syrup (You can substitute 2 oz. sour mix for the fresh juice and simple syrup.)

Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with fresh papaya. If the Nasdaq's down, serve it on the rocks--and in the red. Just substitute 1 oz. grenadine for the simple syrup, shake all ingredients with ice, and strain into a rocks glass filled three-quarters with ice. Can you really afford to garnish?

MARGIN FIZZ

1 oz. Tanqueray gin 1 oz. maraschino liqueur 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice 3-4 oz. sparkling wine or champagne

Chill the first three ingredients by stirring in a mixing glass with ice. Strain into a champagne flute and top with champagne (the better you're doing on margin, the better the sparkling wine). Garnish with a lemon peel.

DOT-KAMIKAZE

3/4 oz. Absolut Mandarin 1/2 oz. orange Curacao 1/4 oz. fresh lime juice 1/2 oz. Rose's lime juice

Shake with ice and serve in a shot glass. As with many dot-coms, the high is great. Just watch out for the hangover.
