Plastic Fantastic
By Peter Lewis

(FORTUNE Magazine) – Made of genuine wood-grain plastic that's supposed to resemble rosewood, Harman Kardon's new Champagne Special Edition three-piece computer speaker set is designed for PC-using executives who want an elegant, Windows-based counterpart to HK's flashy Sound Sticks speakers for the Apple Macintosh. The "Champagne" name comes from the twin nine-inch satellite speakers, shaped like champagne flutes. Backed by a subwoofer, they push sufficient sound for the desktop but are no threat to a home stereo. We loved their brightness and spunk, and their ability to create an illusion of multichannel surround sound.
