Lost Rock & Roll Masterpieces, Volume 14

(FORTUNE Magazine) – "The Rooster," by Ike Turner & His Kings of Rhythm, on Ike's Instrumentals (Ace)

Ike's deplorable treatment of Tina (as well as some other unfortunate habits) dropped him off the edge of the world for 20 years or so. Maybe now we can recognize that he was one of the great rock guitarists. He picked up a white Stratocaster and, since it had a whammy bar, didn't see any reason not to use it. A lot. Strange as it sounds, listening to "The Rooster," from 1962, you can hear the first few waves of surf guitar crash on shore.
