One Man's Humble Opinion

(FORTUNE Magazine) – We were all set to review More Mirth of a Nation (Perennial), a terrific anthology of humor writing, but then we found this, about to be posted on Amazon.com...

***** Only one flaw November 25, 2002 Reviewer: imfrancis from Brooklyn, N.Y.

More Mirth of a Nation admirably attempts to create a modern canon of American humor--or so it says on the cover--although as is the case with any canon, some artists are unfairly overlooked. Why is Francis Heaney, whose contribution (the brilliant "Holy Tango of Poetry") certainly could have been longer, mentioned on the back cover but not the front, rejected in favor of "celebrities" and "cover art"? For that matter, why isn't he in the cover photo? Presumably he likes peeking up women's dresses as much as the next man (if the next man isn't Dan Savage), and he is, by all reports, exceedingly handsome. I hope we'll be hearing more from this talented fellow. Soon. He deserves to ply his art with the freedom that only a lucrative publishing contract can bring. The rest of the book is also good.
