Ted Buys A Jane
By Patricia Sellers

(FORTUNE Magazine) – Right after he cashed out $790 million in AOL Time Warner stock in early May, Ted Turner told FORTUNE that he would invest it "prudently and conservatively" (See "Gone With the Wind," on fortune.com.) We figured he might buy more land or maybe, as he told us, a piece of the Atlanta Braves. But a portrait of his ex-wife?! At a recent fundraiser for the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, an organization founded by Jane Fonda, the bidding for a 1982 Andy Warhol screen print of Fonda ended with one man offering $22,000. Ted! He says he'll hang the piece in the guest house at his Flying D Ranch in Montana. "I will always love Jane," Turner told us. Obviously, an investment in Fonda warms his heart more than those shares of AOL ever did. --Patricia Sellers
