No. 11 Hank McKinnell PFIZER
By John Simons REPORTER ASSOCIATES Brenda Cherry, Muoi Tran

(FORTUNE Magazine) – McKinnell, 60, is the corporate world's surgeon general. As CEO of the globe's largest drug company (Pfizer now has the third-largest market capitalization after Microsoft and GE), this powerful lobbyist holds sway over the world's medical-research agenda. McKinnell is exceptionally good at making revenue-enhancing deals too. He brought about Pfizer's $84 billion merger with Warner-Lambert in 2000 and $60 billion acquisition of Pharmacia in 2002. When it comes to power, he says, he likes to push it down the ranks. "Quite often I'm asked, 'What are we going to do about this or that?' My response is 'Understand the vision and values of the organization. Then you figure it out.'" --John Simons
