Get Lost In Translation
By Clay Chandler

(FORTUNE Magazine) – Sofia Coppola's new film, Lost in Translation, starring Bill Murray as a jet-lagged actor shooting a whiskey ad in Japan, has won rave reviews. Now the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, where the movie was filmed, is trying to capitalize on the association. The hotel's Lost in Translation package promises the "energy, romance, and humor of a visit abroad." It includes five nights in a luxury suite (like the one where Murray tosses restlessly on his king-sized bed); a nightly cocktail at the hotel's bar (where Murray sits in dazed agony as a songstress murders "Scarborough Fair"); and a shiatsu massage (like the one that leaves Murray in "staggering, unbearable pain"). "Our idea is that American travelers will enjoy the movie and become interested in our hotel," says Park Hyatt spokeswoman Maiko Ishimura, who hasn't seen the film. The hotel is throwing in a one-hour lesson in Japanese etiquette. But at $4,820, the package also offers a lesson in Japanese prices. "It's not so reasonable," concedes Ishimura. And so far there have been no takers. --Clay Chandler
