Palm Gets A High-Five
By Peter Lewis/Media Maven

(FORTUNE Magazine) – It's tempting to call Palm's Tungsten T3 the Terminator, but in truth it's the most formidable PDA that Palm has yet produced. It's solid, compact, and fits in a pocket, but--surprise!--the bottom slides down to reveal another d of an inch of extra screen real estate, making the screen 50% larger than any previous Palm handheld display. It also has higher resolution (320 by 480 pixels) and greater brightness than any other PDA I've tested. And here's another new angle: The display shifts automatically from portrait to landscape format when you need a wide screen for spreadsheets, e-mail, web pages, and Word documents (thanks to the built-in Documents to Go and VersaMail applications from DataViz). The T3 ($399) has a powerful processor and more than 50 megabytes of usable memory. The lack of built-in WiFi connectivity is a drag, but it does have built-in Bluetooth short-range wireless networking; pair the T3 with a Bluetooth phone and you've got wireless access to the web and e-mail, as well as direct dialing from the contacts file. But wait, there's more: It's a one-button voice-memo recorder and MP3 music player, and the SD expansion slot can boost storage even further. The long and short of it is that the T3 is Palm's best and brightest business-class PDA.
