Making travel a smooth production

By Nadira A. Hira, Fortune writer

(Fortune Magazine) -- Ben Silverman could single-handedly generate a week's worth of TV. The 36-year-old is the executive producer of ABC's new dramedy "Ugly Betty", USA's "Nashville Star", NBC's "The Biggest Loser", and the Emmy-award-winning comedy "The Office." As a result the Los Angeles transplant could be in Nashville one day and Nice the next. And every place he lands is another opportunity to find the next big idea - and someone to buy it.

Days on the road per year 150.

Favorite way to fly As somebody's guest.

Travel tip Living in London running the William Morris Agency there, I'd plan business trips on Fridays so I could spend the weekend in the city I was working in. It was a way to work and reward myself in the same moment.

Best biz lunch In L.A., the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel. In New York, Michael's. And in London, the Ivy.

New gadget I love my underwater iPod case, which lets me swim while listening to music.

Favorite wheels 1971 Dodge Challenger convertible. It's an old muscle car I own in New York. Cherry-red exterior, white leather top and interior, and fast.

Go-anywhere outfit Jeans and a button-down, or an Ozwald Boateng suit for an important meeting.

Top hotel The Berkeley in London or the Hôtel du Cap in Cap d'Antibes.

Memorable getaway The Pellicano hotel in Porto Ercole, a little town just north of Rome, on the Tuscan coast. It's filled with Italians, and the great dolce vita that they live by. It's also the best combination of Tuscan wine and food and the beach.

Shopping fix On Abbot Kinney in Venice, Calif., and in NoLIta in New York City. Boutiques over chains.

Biz trip R&R The hotel spa, the hotel bar, or a jog in a park. Hyde Park and Central Park are the best.

Cocktail Kir framboise at the du Cap. Bloody mary at Soho House New York. The Soho House mix is amazing, and the framboise is fresh at the du Cap.
