The Revolution

(FORTUNE Small Business) – There has been much--perhaps too much--said about the approach of the new millennium. After all, what real change will Jan. 1, 2000, bring other than the resolution of our Y2K anxiety? Well, small businesses can expect great changes--considering they have already evolved into the fastest-growing, most rapidly changing segment of American business. FSB, Fortune Small Business magazine, is committed to turning this evolution into a revolution. Just this year we've increased publication from six to eight issues annually, expanded our editorial coverage to embrace more of your interests, changed our name to underscore our affiliation with Fortune publishing, and begun appearing on newsstands near you.

Looking ahead to the year 2000, FSB will do even more. Together with Microsoft bCentral and Ceridian, we will sponsor the Small Business Administration's Vision 2000 Conference--an awards event designed to showcase outstanding state and local initiatives that advance small businesses. The conference will take place on Dec. 1 and 2, 1999, at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C. In February 2000, the SBA will open an Entrepreneur Center in San Jose that will offer financing, training, consulting, and technology resources to small businesses located in Silicon Valley. FSB will be the sole sponsor of the center's training room. A series of ongoing business management and technology courses will be offered in the coming year to help entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses.

Which means that for small businesses, millennial hope is truly more than just hype.
