Editor's Notes
(FORTUNE Small Business) – We've spent a lot of time over the past few issues telling you how important the technology story is for small business today. For some, the story is high tech as the great equalizer, allowing businesses of all sizes to compete head-on with larger adversaries. For others, it is starting a business on the Internet or figuring out how to compete with someone who is already there. But there's not much we can do to help you sort it all out unless we're delivering smart, well-written, and timely stories. And as with your business, that takes good people. We'd like to think we have some of the best on board. For example: We recently hired David Lidsky as our technology editor. David joins us from PC Magazine, arguably the best of its genre, where he was in charge of its ever-growing Internet coverage. If you saw PC Mag's cover story a few months back--called "You.Com"--that was David. A lawyer by training (hey, we never asked whether he passed the bar exam!), David worked his way up through the ranks at PC Magazine right out of law school. He has already made our coverage of the computer world and the Internet more sophisticated and newsy. And sometime in the near future, he'll have his own Website. As he describes it, DavidLidsky.com "will essentially be a high-end vanity site," which he will use as a resource to communicate with the high-tech community on stories FSB is developing or considering (and he'll write a few humor pieces too). Stay tuned. Meanwhile, David has hired another PC Magazine alum, Maggie Overfelt, as a reporter. She has already made a splash with her new column, "The FSB Browser" (see page 98). Watch for it in the Tech section of every issue. Let me know what you think of our tech coverage and anything else on your mind by e-mail at hank_gilman@timeinc.com or by mail at 1271 Avenue of the Americas, New York, N.Y. 10020. Thanks for reading. Hank Gilman Managing Editor |
