(FORTUNE Small Business) – After Dave Long, the CEO of Seattle-based Screenlife, discovered the technology to randomly shuffle and track information on a DVD, he was able to turn his prototype of a film-clip trivia game, SceneIt?, into a mega-seller DVD board game. Screenlife sold more than one million games in 2004, up from the 30,000 units it sold in 2002. With nearly $100 million in revenue for 2004, the gamemaker projects 100% growth for 2005.

TAKE ONE Long, 43, and his wife, Kelly, knew they were seeing something marketable in 1992 when they showed scary-movie clips at a Halloween party and everyone tried to guess the movie. Then, "in 2001, I bought my first DVD player, and a light bulb went off," says Long. Digital Farm, also located in Seattle, helped him turn a DVD into an interactive game.

BIG SCENE Screenlife acquired Digital Farm in 2004. "DVD was the perfect platform to release the SceneIt? game, but there will be other platforms," says Long, who adds that he now believes in Hollywood endings. --SAKINA P. SPRUELL
