The job: The market for developers who can create software for websites is strong, thanks to the proliferation of applications for smart phones and tablets, along with the push to develop “cloud” software hosted entirely online. You can do the job from home, and many web developers work as consultants.

How to switch: There is no formal degree or license to become a web developer, but you typically need certifications in a range of programming languages, such as JavaScript and HTML.
