A one-stoplight town squeezed between the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake, Farmington has a quaint, quiet downtown with few shops. Homes here come in all shapes and sizes, from bungalows to ramblers to tri-levels to modern farmhouses. Most Farmington residents commute south to Salt Lake City, but some travel north to Hill Air Force Base, Utah's sixth largest employer. There has been some controversy over the town's transformation from rural community to suburban bedroom community. Construction of a highway running through town has been contentious, for example. --N.A.
