10 ZIPPY LITTLE SPORTS CARS YOU CAN AFFORD
By Brian Dumaine

(MONEY Magazine) – If the idea of owning a sports car intrigues you but a Ferrari is beyond your budget, consider the more affordable '70s makes like the MGB, Triumph TR6 or Fiat Spider. These cars can be raced (but they're really best for hurtling along country roads), and you can buy them for way under $10,000. If you find the right mechanic, maintenance won't be a house of horrors either; in fact, it's easier than ever to get parts, including newly made ones. But don't expect these beauties to appreciate much. There are too many of them. Rust-free and mechanically sound, the best will hold value over the next five years and in some cases even slightly outpace inflation. Major restoration work rarely pays off as an investment. After talking to owners of classic-car shops, mechanics and presidents of car clubs, MONEY has compiled a list of the best moderately priced sports cars from the late '60s and the 1970s, those that -- in the words of Paul Tsikuris of Tsikuris Classics in Lakeland, Fla. -- ''are easy to find and service.'' Before you buy, be sure to have the car checked by a mechanic. Then, happy driving.
