(MONEY Magazine) – Your April Editor's Notes, ''The Empty Promise of Annuities,'' seems to be a damnation of all annuities. You tell us how Vincent Triglia suffered because of the collapse of Executive Life. But Executive Life's history is not typical of the insurance industry. I feel quite sorry for Mr. Triglia. But he made the big mistake of believing a specific company could pay one to three points more interest than anyone else. He also made the mistake of buying his annuity at a bank. As an insurance professional, I personally won't handle 90% of the annuity companies most banks and S&Ls are promoting. If a person wants an annuity, I'd suggest calling a financial planner or an independent insurance agent not tied to one company. John Ross Topeka
