DID OUR HEADLINE COME CLEAN?
By

(MONEY Magazine) – I am still seething about your April piece on dry cleaning. One of your subheadings said, ''Fact: Dry cleaners mess up 25% of the time.'' Clearly, the headline insinuates that a cleaner damages or loses one in four garments. However, later your article states the real facts about that statistic. You say then that when there is a problem, it has been caused 75% of the time by a manufacturer's defect or consumer use or misuse and 25% of the time by the cleaner. By the way, according to records at my drycleaning store, one in 6,378 garments we process is damaged or lost. That's 0.02%. Arlene Wilhelm Dickinson, N.D.
