THE MIDDLECLASS TAX SQUEEZE GETS YOU ROARING FOR REFORM
By

(MONEY Magazine) – Thank you for your April story showing how the tax squeeze prevents young people from living as well as their parents did 20 years ago despite earning comparable incomes. I would like to visit my congressman and shove those pages down his throat. And you did not even include all of the ''hidden'' taxes that we also pay: excise taxes on a lot of durable goods; state and local license taxes not only on automobiles but on anything that rolls except a coaster wagon; motel and meal taxes; gasoline taxes; utility bill taxes; and many more. Too bad these young folks can't just vote themselves a fat salary increase in the dark of the moon the way the congressmen did. D.J. Harrington Carroll, Iowa

I can't understand why one of the families featured in April's ''The Pain of the MiddleClass Tax Squeeze and What You Can Do About It'' dismissed the suggestions given to them by your financial experts. I would like to see more articles devoted to middleclass single mothers trying to create a better life for their children and themselves. I am just such a single mother, raising three young children, and would welcome any financial plannerUs advice on such things as saving taxes, saving for college tuition and planning for retirement.
