A Little Slice Of Arkansas
By Joan Caplin

(MONEY Magazine) – Now you can buy a one-square-foot plot of Whitewater for just $19.95. Okay, it's not the Whitewater, but it is a patch of the Ozarks 15 miles away from the pre-Monica source of Bill Clinton's troubles.

The seller is Carey Carpenter, 78, a retired aerospace scientist who bought his 800-acre ranch in 1969. On his Website (www.firstozark.com), Carpenter says that in honor of Ken Starr, he's selling a portion of his "best back country." Carpenter won't divulge how many takers he's had. But, hey, the price includes a yellowed parchment deed incongruously illustrated with a straw-hatted figure seated 'neath a tree.

Russell Dirst, owner of nearby Classic Real Estate, says real Whitewater lots go for $8,000 to $10,000. "This," he adds, "is worth $19.95 just for the bragging rights."
