17 FEDERAL RESERVE OPEN MARKET COMMITTEE. Most economists expect the Fed to cut interest rates another quarter point at this meeting and then again in late December.

17-18 ASIAN SUMMIT. President Clinton will talk economics, crisis management and trade with 22 world leaders at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Kuala Lumpur. One notable absentee: Boris Yeltsin.

19-21 CLINTON VISITS KOREA AND JAPAN. During the summer it was China. Now, following the APEC summit, Clinton will reinforce key relationships with leaders in Tokyo and Seoul.

DECEMBER

1 PURCHASING MANAGERS REPORT. This national survey, plus new statistics on durable goods and factory orders, are clues to the health of a key growth engine: capital spending.

11-12 EUROPEAN UNION SUMMIT. Heads of state gather for a last big logistical powwow before the euro is rolled out on New Year's Day.
