(MONEY Magazine) – Expirations expiring. Following the lead of Northwest Airlines, Delta and United are extending their deadlines for expiring miles. Delta miles due to expire at the end of 1998 will now be good through 1999 (call 800-221-1212 for details). Meanwhile, United will extend deadlines through 1999 for members with more than 20,000 miles, but only if you call by Dec. 31 or write by Dec. 15 (800-447-6772 or Mileage Plus Program, P.O. Box 80608, San Diego, Calif. 92138).

Minivan rental sale. Through Dec. 12, Dollar Rent a Car will rent Dodge Caravans and Chrysler and Plymouth Voyagers for $35 a day, good throughout the U.S. Sunday through Wednesday, or $40 a day, good Thursday through Saturday--or best of all, $199 for a week (800-800-4000).

Free nights. Through Dec. 31, you can get a two-nights-for-one weekend rate if you use a Visa card at Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts in Boston, Dallas, New Orleans, New York City, Cancun and Toronto. The euro makes its debut as the official currency of the EMU on Jan. 1. Sort of. Euros will only be "notional" until 2002, meaning only electronic transactions involving credit cards and bank accounts and the like will use euros.
