August Travel

(MONEY Magazine) – Fly to Paris on the cheap. Charter airline Corsair (800-366-6387) has round-trip fares with midweek departures from New York for $398 through Sept. 18. In mid-June, major airlines were charging about $950 for similar flights. Once on the Continent, a Europe Flight Pass (888-387-2479) lets you fly between European cities for $99 a leg.

Bask in the sun on the Great Barrier Reef. The area gets summer temperatures even in August, when most of Australia is going through its mild winter. South Pacific Travel Shop (800-894-7722) offers a 14-night stay with air fare from the U.S. and a five-day car rental for $1,683 per person. After Aug. 31, it's $1,970.

Rent some extra elbow room. From Aug. 17 to Dec. 20, get half off regular rates if you rent a motor home at any of Cruise America's 32 locations in California or Nevada and drop it off at a sunbelt location between Arizona and Florida. Drop-off and mileage fees are also waived. A 26-footer that sleeps up to six--usually $900 a week plus fees--will be $450. Call 800-327-7799.

Take the whole family to sea. Through Aug. 28, American Hawaii Cruises (800-765-7000) lets kids under 17 sail for free on seven-day cruises of the islands if accompanied by two adults (who pay $1,230 each).
