(MONEY Magazine) – 24 FEDERAL OPEN MARKET COMMITTEE MEETING. Investors are waiting to see if Greenspan and company will change their bias--now at a market-enhancing neutral--toward raising rates again at the next meeting in October.

26 GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT. This quarterly report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis will give an updated account of the nation's output--both corporate and individual--in the second quarter of 1999. One of the most interesting pieces of data: total U.S. corporate profits, an indicator that should continue to rise as the economy flourishes but that economists also use as an inflation tracker.

SEPTEMBER

2 ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES GO ON SALE IN JAPAN. Thirty-nine years after the Pill became available in the U.S., Japan has finally decided, after years of debate, to allow its doctors to prescribe it. Analysts estimate that Japanese demand could be worth as much as $1 billion a year to the pharmaceutical companies that make birth control pills, which include American Home Products, Johnson & Johnson and Monsanto.
