Make the Most of Your Delay WORK SPACES, SPAS AND MORE
(MONEY Magazine) – When you're grounded, what alternatives do you have to airport bars, newsstands and vending machines? --Business centers. In 16 U.S. and Canadian airports, including Dallas/Fort Worth and New York City's JFK, you can rent a cubicle with a phone, T1 connection, PC and combination printer, fax and copier from Aerzone Business Centers (formerly Laptop Lanes). In Los Angeles, the Great Escape, with work cubicles and access to a DVD player, cable TV and video games, opens in three terminals in late January. The price is not yet set. --Airline lounges. You can buy a one-day pass to United, American, US Airways or Delta's airport lounges for $50. You'll find office facilities, as well as complimentary beverages. --Gyms and spas. Swim or work out at the Hilton Chicago O'Hare health club for $10 or the Hilton Boston Logan health club for $5. A day pass to 24 Hour Fitness at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport and Towers is $10. In late November, the Departure Spa, offering haircuts for $25 and up and massages from $15, opened in Newark. O2raOxygen spa, which sells 15 minutes of fresh oxygen for $15, opens in Detroit in March. --Playtime. San Francisco's airport has an aviation museum, 40 rotating art exhibitions and two branches of Kids' Spot, an interactive children's learning and play center. At Orlando International Airport, the Shipyard Brewing Co. offers five-minute to three-hour tours between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Says brewmaster Ron Raike: "You can do anything from hang out to scrub beer kegs." --STEPHANIE D.
