(MONEY Magazine) – Prague before spring Nordique Tours/Norvista is offering deals on trips to Prague, good for travel through the end of March. A seven-day package that includes round-trip air fare on Finnair from New York City, five nights at a three-star hotel, breakfast, airport transfers and a guided tour of the city's Old Town and other historic landmarks is only $499 per person, based on double occupancy. You must book at least one week in advance. After March 31, the price jumps to $599. Nordique is also offering eight-day packages to Prague and either Budapest, Vienna or Warsaw for $699 to $725. Call 800-995-7997 for more details. Jeep talk Chrysler is offering favorable deals on 2001 model Jeep Cherokees and Jeep Grand Cherokees, among the most popular SUVs on the market. Buyers can choose a $1,500 rebate or--even better if you plan to take a loan--a $1,000 rebate plus 0.9% 36-month financing on Cherokees and 2.9% on Grand Cherokees. Assuming a target price on a well-equipped Grand Cherokee of $29,526 (or $28,526 after the rebate), a loan at 2.9% instead of the national average rate of 9.45% cuts $105 off your monthly payments--or about $3,800. Just hurry: The Cherokee deal expires Jan. 22. Winter gardening If the demise of Garden.com in December left you in the lurch, you can order online from the W. Atlee Burpee seed company (www.burpee.com; 800-888-1447), which has been tempting gardeners with its famous seed catalogue for 125 years--and doesn't look to be going anywhere. If you'd like to give your garden an indoor head start, the site offers reusable plastic seed-starting trays for $7.95 and a windowsill greenhouse for $6.95. Another great site is GardenWeb (forums.gardenweb.com/forums/explant), which hosts an active marketplace where gardeners barter, beg and give away seeds, bulbs and cuttings. Just post what you're looking for or want to share. The service is free, though you'll likely be asked to cover postage if someone sends you seeds or a cutting. Crowning jewels Many of us are hoping to quickly forget the mess of the 2000 presidential election. But the folks at online jeweler Enjewel (www.enjewel.com) sought to make something lasting of it with their sterling silver Election Collection. The Butterfly Ballot necklace pendant (right) with--yes--hanging chad ($125) lets you keep Recount 2000 close to your heart forever. The collection also includes Dimpled Chad earrings ($100 a pair) and Pregnant Chad cuff links ($100 a pair). Kids and the Caribbean Many resorts in the Caribbean lure families with kids-stay-and-eat-free perks in the summer, but it's rare to find such deals in high season. Bolongo Bay Beach Club & Villas (800-524-4746) in St. Thomas now allows kids 12 and under to both stay and eat (from the children's menu) for free, year round, when accompanied by an adult. Rooms are $245 a night, including Continental breakfast, through April 15. |
