(MONEY Magazine) – $940 Average amount that American households plan to spend on gifts, decorations, greeting cards and food this holiday season, according to a survey by the National Retail Federation

$20,000 Price of a personal ATM cash-dispensing machine from F.A.O. Schwarz, not including delivery. This "ultimate expression of freedom and independence," as the company website (www.fao.com) puts it, frees you from "those exorbitant transaction fees."

$46 The amount that holiday gift givers, on average, feel they can spend in order to achieve the same value as if they'd given $100 in cash, according to a recent study by Joel Waldfogel, an economist at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. Why? Because of a "stigma associated with cash" that the study found to equal roughly half the price of a noncash gift plus $4.

$42.73 Value that the average gift recipient would put on a $46 gift (not including sentimental value), according to the same study.
