(MONEY Magazine) – BAIT FOR BOOKWORMS E-commerce site Buy.com has declared a battle of the books, promising to beat any book's price at megaretailer Amazon.com by 10%--and to ship it for free. (Currently, Amazon offers free shipping only on book orders totaling $49 or more.) Is this the best deal for online consumers since Kozmo.com? How long will it last? Buy.com says the price war is on for good. We say get your books while they're cheap. --ART JANIK

DON'T LEAVE THE COUNTRY WITHOUT 'EM If you've stopped taking traveler's checks on vacation now that you can find ATMs just about everywhere, here's a reason to rethink: American Express will now help traveler's check holders replace lost or stolen passports and credit cards--including cards from other issuers. The service is free, you don't have to pre-register and, in the case of missing passports, AmEx will not only connect you to the appropriate U.S. consulate but will also, if necessary, send you paperwork overnight, free of charge, and walk you through the replacement process. A single check--the lowest denomination is $20--gives you coverage. --ANDREA BENNETT
