Retirement Rebate

(MONEY Magazine) – SPEND AND SAVE Swiping a credit card that puts a 1% rebate into your kid's college savings plan is not new. So what is? A card that adds 1% to your retirement funds. In April, Vesdia, which also owns the 529-rebate program BabyMint, rolled out the NestEggz Reward MBNA MasterCard--a rebate card that distributes money into mutual funds, IRAs and savings accounts. Vesdia expects average members to save $40 a month. That's based on typical monthly bills and how often members patronize its 700 participating retailers. Stay at a Marriott's Residence Inn, and you will get an 8% rebate on your total charge (on top of NestEggz's 1%); Eddie Bauer stores give you an additional 4%. The NestEggz MasterCard has no annual fee and an 8.9% annual rate (go to www.nesteggzrewards.com for details). --M.J.
