JetBlue Airways traffic up 2.3 percent in June as it increases capacity

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - JetBlue Airways Corp. said Monday its traffic rose 2.3 percent last month as it increased capacity.

June traffic rose to 2.3 billion revenue passenger miles from 2.25 billion during the same period a year earlier. A revenue passenger mile is a unit measuring one paying passenger flown one mile.

The low-cost carrier raised capacity by 3.2 percent to 2.77 billion available seat miles from 2.69 billion.

However, JetBlue's load factor, a measure of occupancy, dropped to 83.1 percent from 83.8 percent as fewer passengers came aboard.

So far this year, traffic is up 5.1 percent to 13.32 billion revenue passenger miles. Capacity jumped 8.7 percent to 16.78 billion available seat miles, while occupancy dipped 2.7 percentage points to 79.4 percent.

JetBlue shares rose 5 cents to $3.39 in afternoon trading. Top of page
