Rundown of theme park plans in the Middle East

NEW YORK (Associated Press) - A look at plans announced by Hollywood studios and other entertainment companies for theme parks in the Middle East:

_ March 2007: Marvel Entertainment Inc. says it will help create a $1 billion theme park based on characters like Spider-Man, X-Men and Hulk with Al Ahli Group in Dubai by 2011.

_ May 2007: General Electric Co.'s Universal Studios says it will partner with government-owned Tatweer on a $2.2 billion project in the huge Dubailand project based on franchises such as King Kong and Jurassic Park to open in 2010.

_ June 2007: Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures announces a licensing deal with Ruwaad Holdings on a theme park as part of a $2.5 billion complex in Dubai using properties such as Titanic.

_ September 2007: Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Bros. unit announces plans to partner with Aldar Properties on a theme park and hotel based on characters such as Bugs Bunny and Superman. Groundbreaking set for 2009.

_ February 2008: DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. says it will team with Tatweer to bring franchises such as Shrek and Kung Fu Panda to another Dubailand theme park.

_ February 2008: Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc.'s entertainment division announces a four-park plan, including a SeaWorld, on a manmade island in Dubai with partner Nakheel to open in 2012.

_ March 2008: Theme park operator Six Flags Inc. announces it will also partner with Tatweer on a thrill-ride section of Dubailand.

_ March 2008: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. says it plans to help build an entertainment complex in Abu Dhabi with Sorouh Real Estate based on franchises such as Pink Panther and James Bond to open by 2012. Top of page
