Lighting the Path to 5G: Viavi Introduces Virtualized Ethernet Probe to Revolutionize Service Assurance and Backhaul Test
Trials Underway or Planned With National Carriers in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia

Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) today expanded its EtherASSURE service assurance portfolio with a virtualized Ethernet test probe, further supporting its customer base of Tier-1 service providers around the globe as they ready for NFV and 5G. These operators depend on EtherASSURE solutions to help optimize networks and guarantee service levels, and are seeking test capabilities consistent with the virtualized networks they are implementing, or test functions that can be deployed more flexibly to support the diversity of network endpoints envisioned on the path to 5G. National carriers in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia have been conducting, or plan to conduct, trials of Viavi's virtual Ethernet test probe. Viavi will be demonstrating this solution at Mobile World Congress, Hall 6, Booth 6I37, February 22-25.

Mobile networks worldwide may be at different stages of development between 3G and 5G, but are following a common path involving network function virtualization (NFV) and densification to meet the requirements of ever-surging, more diverse service consumption. The operators leading the way are pursuing virtualized test and assurance systems to follow their overall NFV strategies. As connected devices grow in number and demand for service -- from smartphones to connected cars and homes -- operators will need to be able to deploy service assurance and backhaul test at varying scales and points through the network, further calling for solutions that are not tied to purpose-built hardware platforms.

The EtherASSURE virtualized Ethernet test-head/probe delivers test, troubleshooting and performance monitoring and is based on the industry-leading capabilities of the purpose-built hardware version of the Viavi QT600-10. This allows customers to more simply deploy services on industry-standard x86 server platforms. The virtualized probe is part of Viavi's broader portfolio for real-time end-to-end network visibility and intelligence enabling assurance in both physical and virtual environments.

"Viavi is fortunate to be working closely with the leading mobile service providers in the world, and our announcement today is a direct response to their needs for test and assurance solutions in line with their network strategies," said Richard Piasentin, General Manager, Visibility, Intelligence & Analytics, Viavi Solutions. "Our virtual Ethernet probe provides additional deployment options and can support customers as they evolve their networks according to their virtual, cloud or hybrid network strategies."
